How does the mood of Christmas impact your work life?
Do you plan your work life around this seasonal impact?
Whether you work for yourself or someone else, whether you work at home or away from home, alone or with others, Christmas alters patterns and moods. Christmas makes demands and requires choices.
In this Inner View, Mark McGuinness and I discuss Christmas and the Creative Entrepreneur. Mark currently blogs to a large audience of creative entrepreneurs on the joys and challenges of creativity, productivity and success. He is the author of Resilience, a book on facing down criticism and rejection. And Mark is a masterful and sensitive coach.
Like the other Inner Views, Mark and I briefly look at just a few of the questions and possibilities living in the mix of work and holidays. But there are meaningful and creative insights in Mark’s thoughtful observations and suggestions.
Listen and reflect.
There is a special gift from Mark, who also is a gifted poet, at the end of this interview. He shares Thomas Hardy’s Christmas poem, The Oxen.

Here is the poem:
The Oxen
Christmas Eve, and twelve of the clock.
”Now they are all on their knees,
”
An elder said as we sat in a flock
By the embers in hearthside ease.
We pictured the meek mild creatures where
They dwelt in their strawy pen,
Nor did it occur to one of us there
To doubt they were kneeling then.
So fair a fancy few would weave
In these years! Yet, I feel,
If someone said on Christmas Eve,
”Come; see the oxen kneel
”In the lonely barton by yonder coomb
Our childhood used to know,
”
I should go with him in the gloom,
Hoping it might be so.
Thomas Hardy
